§ 6. General Sir George Jeffreysasked the Secretary of State for War when it is proposed again to publish the Monthly Army List, giving particulars of the location of all units and formations of the Army, together with the names, appointments and stations of commanders, staff and regimental officers.
§ Mr. ShinwellAs in the case of the Navy and Air Force Lists, the contents of the Army List are being reviewed, and it may be possible before long to make a very limited number of copies available for sale to institutions which particularly feel the need for them.
§ Sir G. JeffreysIs the Secretary of State aware that the public wants to know where the Army is, and what the Army is doing, and is it necessary all this time after the end of hostilities to keep secret these matters? Is the Secretary of State under the impression that foreign Intelligence Services do not exactly know the whereabouts of our Army?
§ Mr. ShinwellIt is because of some of the submissions which the hon. and gallant Gentleman makes that we are endeavouring to prepare this List.
