HC Deb 12 February 1948 vol 447 c566
44. Mr. Shephard

asked the Minister of Health what progress is being made with the provision of a mains water supply to those villages in the rural districts of Bingham and Newark which are at present without mains water.

Mr. Bevan

A scheme for the Rural District of Bingham has just been adopted by the Council and it is expected that it will be submitted for my approval within the next two or three weeks. Two schemes have been prepared for the Newark Rural District. The southern scheme is awaiting the result of a trial borehole. Work on the northern scheme is due to commence on the 1st March.

Mr. Shephard

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that I have been putting this Question down now for nearly five years. Cannot he give some indication of an early start on the work?

Mr. Bevan

I said the work was due to commence on the northern scheme on 1st March. I have been responsible for two and a half years and not for 25 years.
