§ 5. Mr. Thomas Reidasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies in what colonies are domestic animals which are killed for food, killed by modern humane methods.
Mr. Creech JonesIn all important urban areas in the Colonies there are abattoirs where domestic animals are slaughtered under supervision and by humane methods, but it is as yet impossible to secure the adoption of these methods throughout the widely scattered rural areas.
§ Mr. ReidWould my right hon. Friend bring the matter to the attention of the 1782 Colonies concerned in the hope that some progressive legislatures will abolish this unnecessary cruelty to animals caused by cutting their throats?
Mr. Creech JonesI have considerable sympathy with my hon. Friend's view, and we have circularised all the Colonies on this matter.
