HC Deb 04 February 1948 vol 446 c1783
25. Mr. Skinnard

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what action has, so far, been taken by Colonial Governments to implement the Memorandum on Colonial Mining Policy of 1946.

Mr. Creech Jones

The Memorandum on Colonial Mining Policy was intended to give guidance to Colonial Governments on general principles. It has been before Governments when considering new leases for the working of minerals.

Mr. Skinnard

Has any practical effect been given to it by those Governments who considered it?

Mr. Creech Jones

There have been quite a number of practical results in Nigeria, and also with regard to development of a geological survey which is being run by the Colonial Office itself.
