§ 10. Mrs. Leah Manningasked the Minister of Transport when it is proposed to increase the number of trains on the Central Line to cope with the alarming increase of travellers due to the recent extension of the line.
§ Mr. BarnesThis is a matter for the British Transport Commission, and I am bringing my hon. Friend's Question to their attention.
§ Mrs. ManningIs it proposed to shrug off every Question that is difficult? Has my right hon. Friend ever been on one of the Central Line stations during the peak hour? If so—and this has nothing to do with the Transport Commission—does he not consider that the conditions in which people have to travel to and from work are absolutely disgraceful, and a danger to life, limb, and the nervous systems of those who have to undergo journeys on this line?
§ Mr. BarnesMy reply was not given to avoid a difficulty. I am not in possession of the information which my hon. Friend needs, but I am satisfied that she will get from the Commission a full explanation of the difficulties and causes of this problem.
§ Mrs. ManningI beg to give notice that I will raise the question of the Central Line extensions on the Adjournment, at the first opportunity.
