HC Deb 15 December 1948 vol 459 cc1214-5
51. Mr. Sidney Shephard

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that washing soap and soapflakes are unprocurable in Southwell, Notts and what steps he is taking to make an adequate supply available.

Dr. Summerskill

The overall supply of soap in Southwell is sufficient to meet the ration of those living in the area. It is not possible to guarantee that demands for particular types and varieties can always be met but I understand that both washing soap and soapflakes are now available.

Mr. Shephard

Is the Minister aware that when this Question was put down, many housewives in Southwell had three weeks' soap coupons, which they were unable to exchange for soap?

Dr. Summerskill

I wish the hon. Member had told me before. He will be surprised to hear that not one complaint was received at the Food Office.
