HC Deb 15 December 1948 vol 459 cc1194-5
27. Mr. Ward

asked the Secretary of State for Air how many officers or officials in the Air Ministry receive petrol coupons for more than 200 gallons per annum in respect of official duties.

Mr. de Freitas

Eighty-five.

Mr. Ward

Would not the Minister agree that any suspicion or rumour amongst the general public that petrol allowance on too lavish a scale, at the expense of the ordinary motorist, is going on at the Air Ministry, will reflect adversely upon the Royal Air Force as a whole. Will he consider this matter very carefully, especially as I have heard that petrol is being dished out on too lavish a scale?

Mr. de Freitas

The figure I have given certainly shows that that is not so, since last year the figure was 120. There has been a reduction to 85.
