HC Deb 15 December 1948 vol 459 cc1213-4
56. Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Food how much jam made from pulp with little fruit content is still on sale in shops; and whether he will ensure that it is so labelled.

Dr. Summerskill

Whether a jam is made from fresh fruit or from fruit pulp, the minimum fruit content is the same. For a table of the minimum fruit content of jams I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Blackburn (Mrs. Castle) on 14th June, 1948. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of a Press Announcement issued on 17th November, which states that the Food Standards Committee is at present considering the standards for preserves.
