HC Deb 15 December 1948 vol 459 c1200
39. Mr. Beswick

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation why the respective reports of the Helmore Committee on the Certification of Aircraft and of the Wilcock Committee on Training of Civil Aviation Aircrew Personnel have not been published; and whether it is proposed to published them.

Mr. Lindgren

These reports are now under examination in the Government Departments concerned. Publication will take place when a statement of Government policy can be made.

Mr. Beswick

What is the purpose of not publishing these reports until the final decision is made?

Mr. Lindgren

It might complicate the issue if we published them beforehand.

Mr. Beswick

If these reports are only a basis for discussion, would it not be better if industry generally and the trade Press could have the opportunity of discussing them before the final decision is made?

Mr. Lindgren

I should have thought that it was the function of the Committee to get the views of the trade and industry generally before making their report to the Minister.
