§ 34. Mr. Thomas Reidasked the Minister of Transport how many people have been, respectively, killed and injured in Britain in road accidents since 1910.
§ Mr. CallaghanBetween 1st January, 1926, and 31st October, 1948, 148,542 persons were killed in road accidents. Excluding the years 1939 to 1941, when injuries were not recorded, 3,509,113 persons were injured. I am sorry that figures for the years before 1926 are not available.
§ Mr. ReidWill my hon. Friend give wider publicity to these figures, in the hope that those who misuse the roads by their carelessness, will put a stop to this appalling calamity?
§ Mr. CallaghanSince the war, there has been a widespread public campaign, and I am glad to say that the number of deaths and casualties is slowly decreasing.
