asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many short refresher courses for Civil Defence officers have been held since 1st January, 1946; and what was the total attendance.

Mr. Ede

The numbers are 24 and 596, respectively. I am sending the hon. and gallant Member detailed descriptions of the courses.

Is the Home Secretary satisfied with the attendance?

Mr. Ede

I think that the attendance was quite satisfactory, having regard to all the circumstances. I think the hon. and gallant Gentleman will understand the full meaning of that when he sees the detailed nature of the courses?
