HC Deb 26 April 1948 vol 450 cc13-4
34. Mr. Thomas Reid

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement regarding the recent prohibition by the new Government of Czechoslovakia on British journalists there, as a result of which they cannot carry on their work.

Mr. Mayhew

If, as I assume, my hon. Friend is referring to the Czech request to all Press correspondents to use only Czechoslovak official sources in making their reports, I have nothing to add to the answer given on this subject by my right hon. Friend the Minister of State on 8th March.

Mr. Reid

Is it possible to get the truth through our Press correspondents in Czechoslovakia now?

Mr. Mayhew

Press restrictions exist in all Communist countries.
