HC Deb 08 April 1948 vol 449 c342
31. Mr. Symonds

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what arrangements have been made with the respective Dominion Governments for the care of British civil and military cemeteries in India and Pakistan.

Mr. Gordon-Walker

I would refer my hon. Friend. to the reply given on 5th February to the hon. Member for Hornsey (Mr. Gammans). Since 1st April, and pending completion of more permanent arrangements, British civil and military cemeteries in India and Pakistan, with the exception of war graves which remain the responsibility of the Imperial War Graves Commission, have been under the care of the United Kingdom High Commissioners in New Delhi and Karachi. Funds have been placed at the credit of the High Commissioners to ensure that cemeteries are maintained during this interim period.
