HC Deb 29 October 1947 vol 443 cc855-6
26. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when the British troops will evacuate Greece.

Mr. Bevin

The position continues to be that our troops will be withdrawn as soon as practicable. The House will be informed when His Majesty's Government are in a position to announce a date.

Mr. Gallacher

Did not the Foreign Secretary inform us early last year that when the elections took place and an acceptable Government was formed, our troops would be brought home? Is it not time we were getting something done about it?

Mr. Bevin

It would facilitate a settlement in Greece if those who are assisting to promote civil war would stop it.

Vice-Admiral Taylor

Can the Foreign Secretary state when Russian troops will be withdrawn from Poland and other European countries?
