HC Deb 28 October 1947 vol 443 c675
14. Mr. Skeffington

asked the Secretary of State for War in what capacity Italians are being employed by the British Military Administration in Eritrea; and for what reasons.

Mr. Shinwell

Italians in Eritrea are being employed in administrative and professional capacities, as judges, doctors, teachers, police, agricultural inspectors and surveyors; others provide the technical and clerical staffs which local resources are unqualified to supply. The employment of such Italians is necessary to enable the administration to function smoothly until such time as the future of the Colony is determined.
