HC Deb 27 November 1947 vol 444 cc2118-9
67. Brigadier Rayner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the Bill relating to the redistribution of constituencies will be presented to the House.

Mr. Ede

I am not yet able to give a date.

Brigadier Rayner

Can the right hon. Gentleman give a general idea when this legislation will be available?

Mr. Ede

I would not like to say anything today which might arouse undue expectation that might eventually produce temporary disappointment.

Mr. Keeling

Surely, the Reports by the Boundary Commissioners will precede the Bill?

Mr. Ede

I have now received from Mr. Speaker all the Reports of the Boundary Commissioners. They are with the printers. I hope that they will be available to hon. Members within a very short, time from now.

Major Legge-Bourke

How much does the publication of the Bill depend on the publication of the Report of the Royal Commission on Population?

Mr. Ede

Not at all.
