HC Deb 25 November 1947 vol 444 cc1778-9
37. Mr. Gerald Williams

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will now announce the arrangements to be made to enable next-of-kin to visit war graves in Europe, including the occupied territories.

Mr. Shinwell

I regret that I am not yet in a position to make any announcement about this matter.

Mr. Williams

Can the Minister seriously consider giving these people, who have been unable so far to get abroad to see these graves, special permission, and, failing that, would he give us some indication of when the long-promised photographs of the graves will be given to the next-of-kin?

Mr. Shinwell

As regards the second part of the supplementary question, I would like to see it on the Order Paper; as regards the first part, the fact is that, although the matter is under consideration, there is a great difficulty about transport facilities.
