HC Deb 25 November 1947 vol 444 c1772
24. Lieut.-Commander Hutchison

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has any statement to make in regard to the proposal that the Scottish Estimates should be discussed by the Standing Committee on Scottish Bills.

Mr. Woodburn

I am giving urgent consideration to this and other suggestions about the arrangements for dealing with Scottish business; but I am not yet in a position to make a statement.

Lieut.-Commander Hutchison

Will the right hon. Gentleman indicate when he is. likely to be able to make a statement—in one week or a fortnight?

Mr. Woodburn

I do not think I could state it as nearly as that, but I am, hopeful.

Mr. J. S. C. Reid

Will the right hon. Gentleman be able to make a statement by the time the Scottish Estimates are introduced in order that if this procedure is adopted, it can be used in this Session?

Mr. Woodburn

All I can say is that I started to deal with this question the day I came into office and I have been dealing with it urgently ever since. I will make a statement as soon as possible.
