HC Deb 25 November 1947 vol 444 c1762
4. Mr. Butcher

asked the Minister of Labour if he will give further information about the proposal to bring 10,000 fatherless youths from Germany to assist in the coal mining industry; and whether any similar arrangements are being made for fatherless girls to train them for work of national importance such as textile operatives, hospital orderlies, etc.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. Ness Edwards)

No arrangements of the kind mentioned are being made. If the hon. Member refers to recent Press reports relating to young orphan displaced persons, there appears to have been misapprehension, for the numbers of such young persons are in fact small.
