HC Deb 20 November 1947 vol 444 c1333
51. Mr. Lipson

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the hardship caused to 22 girls employed in Cheltenham and district by the announcement on nth November that his Department's hostel at The Garth, Eldorado Road, Cheltenham, was to be closed on 22nd November; and as it is not possible for them in the short time available to obtain acceptable alternative accommodation, if he will postpone the closing of the hostel to the date originally announced, 30th January.

Mr. Isaacs

My inquiries are not yet complete and I will write the hon. Member.

Mr. Lipson

Will the right hon. Gentleman give an assurance that these girls will not be asked to leave the hostel at the end of this week? They have to go somewhere.

Mr. Isaacs

I cannot give an assurance but I ask the hon. Gentleman to accept from me that I will do whatever I can to prevent this hardship occurring.
