asked the Minister of Transport the average number of railway wagons produced in this country in prewar years; the average number produced in the war years; the number being produced this year; and the number it is proposed to produce next year.

Mr. Callaghan

The number of wagons produced for use on home railways during the years 1929–38 averaged 25,000 per year, and in the war years 1940–45 about 15,500 per year. Estimated production for this year is 31,000, and the target for 1948 is 48,000.
