HC Deb 17 November 1947 vol 444 c817
93. Mr. Parkin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what progress has been made by the British Police Mission in training the Greek police and gendarmerie to a satisfactory standard of impartiality and efficiency; and when it is expected that this task will be completed.

Mr. Mayhew

The British Police Mission has made very good progress in training the Greek Town Police, who have reached a satisfactory standard of efficiency and impartiality, but the present unsettled conditions in Greece have seriously interfered with the training and organisation of the gendarmerie in the disturbed areas. There thus remains scope for the continuance of the mission's work.

Mr. Francis Noel-Baker

Could my hon. Friend tell us until what date the mission has been re-engaged by the Greek Government?

Mr. Mayhew

Not without notice.
