HC Deb 13 November 1947 vol 444 c549
55. Mr. Low

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why Table No. 127 in the October issue of the Monthly Digest of Statistics gave no figure for gold and dollar reserves later than 30th June, 1947; and whether in future he will ensure that figures given will be right up to date.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Glenvil Hall)

No, Sir. My right hon. Friend has decided to continue to publish the figures of total gold and dollar reserves three months in arrear, but as I stated on 30th October, in reply to the hon. Member for Devizes (Mr. Hollis), monthly statements will be made about the gross sales of gold which have taken place during the preceding month.

Mr. Low

Will the right hon. Gentleman say why?

Mr. Glenvil Hall

Because it seems the most reasonable thing to do.
