HC Deb 10 November 1947 vol 444 c1
5. Brigadier Mackeson

asked the Minister of Food how many tins of fat have been exported from Britain to Nyasaland during the past 18 months.

21. Sir Wavell Wakefield

asked the Minister of Food why fats urgently needed in this country are being exported to the Colonies, where there is a surplus.

The Minister of Food (Mr. Strachey)

During the past 18 months, 4,410 tins or 6 tons of fat, were exported from the United Kingdom to Nyasaland at the express request of the Governor. We have always included in our import programmes a small quantity of fats for Colonies and Dependencies which cannot obtain supplies elsewhere.
