§ 55. Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the date when postwar Income Tax credits will be paid: 2527 the number of men and women, respectively, concerned; and the method by which application for payment should be made.
§ The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Glenvil Hall)As my right hon. Friend indicated in his Budget Statement, the final repayments of postwar credits to old people will begin in the autumn, and should be completed by Christmas. I cannot yet give a definite date, but, as soon as arrangements are completed, an announcement will be made as to the procedure to be followed. The numbers concerned are 1,250,000 men and 500,000 women.
§ Mr. FreemanIn view of the anxiety of these old people to know in advance when they will receive payment, could the right hon. Gentleman give an indication when he will be able to make a statement about the further details?
§ Mr. Glenvil HallI cannot give any closer estimate than that given by my right hon. Friend in his Budget Statement. We hope that the autumn will be the date, and as soon as we can issue the actual details we will.
