HC Deb 19 May 1947 vol 437 cc2001-2
78. Professor Savory

asked the Minister of Food whether, before ratifying the commercial agreement with Poland, which provides for the import of quantities of eggs and bacon from Poland into this country, he will take into account the fact that Poland is at present threatened by a serious famine.

Mr. Strachey

As the hon. Member will appreciate, it is entirely for the Polish Government to decide how much food their country is able to export.

Professor Savory

Is not the right hon. Gentleman aware that, in view of the very serious conditions prevailing in Warsaw and other cities, every egg and every ounce of bacon is required for the soldiers who have gone back from this country?

Mr. Strachey

The hon. Member must address these Questions to the Polish Government. I cannot judge of their situation.
