HC Deb 15 May 1947 vol 437 c1872

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That this House do now adjourn." —[Mr. Michael Stewart.]

12.29 a.m.

Sir John Mellor (Sutton Coldfield)

I am taking this opportunity to raise the question of grants for maintenance of classified roads. I am very glad to see the Minister of Transport present, because I wish to ask him why he has cut county council estimates ranking for grant for the maintenance of classified roads in the current year. I know that this is a matter which has interested a considerable number of Members in all quarters of the House, coming from different parts of the country. On 6th May, 1946, the Minister of Transport said in the House—

Notice taken that 40 Members were not present; House counted, and, 40 Members not being present, the House was adjourned at Twenty-eight Minutes to One o'Clock, till this day.
