HC Deb 15 May 1947 vol 437 c1688
22. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Education whether, in view of the fact that the nation has been summoned to a day of National Prayer on 6th July, and that the two Archbishops and the Moderator of the Free Church General Council have advocated as a standard of national life the Ten Commandments and the Four Gospels, he will circularise all local education authorities with a view to arranging for special instruction to be given in all schools on these two subjects between now and 6th July.

Mr. Hardman

No, Sir. I have no doubt that the attention of local education authorities and schools will be called to the importance of this occasion by other means.

Sir W. Smithers

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that many Bills introduced by this Government violate the Commandments: Thou shalt not steal …. Thou shalt not covet …. and must end in disaster?
