HC Deb 15 May 1947 vol 437 cc1694-5
38. Lieut.-Colonel Sir William Allen

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of the unequal treatment of the linen trade in Northern Ireland as compared with other parts of the United Kingdom regarding the supply of coal; and if he will see that the linen industry in Northern Ireland receives its full quota of the coal necessary to this staple industry to enable it to carry its full burden of export trade.

Sir S. Cripps

The allocation of coal for industrial consumers in Northern Ireland has been computed, in total on the same principles as for the rest of the United Kingdom; the distribution of the allocation as between individual industries and firms is determined by the Northern Ireland Government. During the summer period from the beginning of June, the supply of coal for industry in Northern Ireland will similarly be planned, in total, on the same general basis as for the rest of the United Kingdom, namely, at the level of last summer's consumption.
