§ 47. Mr. Skinnardasked the Prime Minister whether when the treatment of non-European communities by the Government of the Union of South Africa is discussed at the next meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the representatives of His Majesty's Government will be instructed to give no support to policies at variance with the Charter of the United Nations and the declared policy of His Majesty's Government themselves.
§ The Prime MinisterI assume that my hon. Friend has in mind the Resolution adopted at the last meeting of the Assembly of the United Nations in connection with the application made by the Government of India regarding the treatment of Indians in the Union of South Africa. The instructions to be given to the United Kingdom Government's representatives at the next Assembly, the precise nature of which will naturally depend upon the form in which the matter will come up, will continue to be based on the declared policy of His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom which is founded on the Charter itself.
