§ 1. "That a number of Land Forces, not exceeding 1,210,000, all ranks, be maintained for the safety of the United Kingdom and the defence of the possessions of His Majesty's Crown, excluding those serving in India on the Indian Establishment and paid directly out of the revenues of the Governor-General in Council and those serving in Burma on the Burma Establishment and paid directly out of the revenues of Burma, during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1948."
