HC Deb 20 March 1947 vol 435 cc569-70
14. Viscount Hinchingbrooke

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Depart- ment whether he will introduce legislation to enable wives of serving officers and men resident overseas to vote at Parliamentary Elections after 15th October, 1947.

Mr. Ede

Pending consideration of the report of the Committee on Electoral Registration, I am not in a position to make a statement on this subject.

Viscount Hinchingbrooke

When will the right hon Gentleman receive that report and acquaint the House about it, because there is some anxiety on this matter?

Mr. Ede

I have received the report, and I am now considering it.

Mr. Keeling

Would the Home Secretary say whether the necessary Bill will be introduced in this Session or in the next Parliament?

Mr. Ede

In neither.
