asked the Minister of Health what was the expenditure of county councils in 1946–47; and what is the estimated expenditure for 1947–48 and by how much the rate poundage has increased.

I regret that the information is not available, and some of it cannot be known for some time.

Can the Minister say whether the great increase in county council precepts would be a factor to be considered in connection with the review of local government finances?

Mr. Edwards

I think that all relevant factors will be taken into account.
