HC Deb 19 March 1947 vol 435 c380
3. Mr. Dobbie

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he is aware of the problem in regard to navigation caused by the presence of the wreck of H.M.S. Bulwark in the Medway; that the situation is steadily growing worse by siltation; and if his Department will take the necessary steps to remove this 25 year old menace to shipping in the Medway at an early date.

The Civil Lord of the Admiralty (Mr. Walter Edwards)

I am not aware that any difficulties are caused to navigation in the Medway by the wreck of H.M.S. "Bulwark". I am advised that it is not practicable to remove the wreck, and that its dispersal would be a proposition of doubtful practicability, and of prohibitive cost.

Mr. Dobbie

In view of the difficulty experienced by those engaged in shipping in that area, would my hon. Friend be prepared to receive a deputation to discuss the matter further?

Mr. Edwards

I would be quite ready to meet a deputation and consider it again.
