HC Deb 19 March 1947 vol 435 c406
60. Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation the number of times since the inception of the service that B.S.A.A. aircraft flying between the United Kingdom and Venezuela have arrived at their destination according to schedule.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (Mr. Lindgren)

The British South American Airways Corporation service from the United Kingdom to Venezuela was inaugurated on 2nd September, 1946. Of 21 flights operated on this service between that date and 16th February, 1947, 14 arrived on schedule, and seven were delayed.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

Does the Parliamentary Secretary consider that such a performance is a tribute to the nationalisation of aviation?

Mr. Lindgren

It is not a question of tributes or nationalisation, but of the difficulties of the route and the head winds which have to be met, in particular, between the Azores and Bermuda.
