HC Deb 19 March 1947 vol 435 c392
25. Sir G. Fox

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General how many temporary postmen and postwomen have been dismissed in the Henley area; and how many years it is necessary to serve to qualify for a gratuity.

Mr. Burke

The services of five part-time postmen and two part-time post-women in the Henley area were terminated in January last as a result of a revision of postal services. To qualify for a gratuity, an officer must as a rule have served for at least 15 years in a full-time capacity.

Sir G. Fox

Is the Minister aware that some of these people who have been dismissed feel that they have a grievance in that they have received no gratuity?

Mr. Burke

The gratuity is given only for full-time service, and these people were employed part-time.
