HC Deb 18 March 1947 vol 435 cc165-6
1. Mr. David Renton

asked the Minister of Labour how many women landworkers in Huntingdonshire were temporarily unemployed for the whole or part of February this year; how many of them were married; how many of them were offered alternative employment in a factory more than two miles from their homes; how many of them accepted such employment; and how many of those who refused it were deprived of unemployment benefit.

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Isaacs)

The answer to the first part of the Question is, 280; to the second part, 208; to the third and fourth parts, none; the last part does not, therefore, arise.

Mr. Renton

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that quite a number of women have had their unemployment benefit stopped on refusing to go into the alternative occupations offered to them, and will he look into this matter further, with a view to bringing this discrimination to an end?

Mr. Isaacs

If the hon. Gentleman will let me have particulars, I will look into them, but my information is that there was none.
