HC Deb 17 March 1947 vol 435 cc11-2
13. Mr. Bramall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement about the failure of the Dutch and Indonesian Governments to sign the agreement reached with the assistance of Lord Killearn; and if he proposes to make any representations to the Dutch Government on the subject.

Mr. McNeil

I would refer to the statement made by my right hon. Friend in the Debate on Foreign Affairs on 27th February, to which I have nothing to add. As regards the second part of the Question, no representations have been made to the Netherlands Government, but His Majesty's Government are watching the situation closely.

Mr. Walter Fletcher

As the right hon. Gentleman rightly claimed considerable credit for the original agreements which were brought about, will he not see that something is done to bring them into being so that they are effective instead of just staying on the side line?

Mr. McNeil

I would not like to go beyond the statement that we are watching the circumstances most closely.
