Mr. Ellis Smithasked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware that sleep and shifts are lost by making nightshift workers attend on Friday afternoons for their wages; and if he will make arrangements for all nightshift workers to be paid on Thursday, Friday or Saturday on completion of the shift.
§ Mr. ShinwellThis is a matter for the National Coal Board who state that arrangements such as those suggested by my hon. Friend are already in operation in many of the coalfield areas. Any proposed extension of such arrangements to all nightshift workers is a matter for discussion through the appropriate machinery that exists for consultation on such matters.
