HC Deb 12 March 1947 vol 434 c1315
32. Dr. Segal

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what sanatorium and other facilities exist for the treatment of tuberculosis in British West Africa.

Mr. Creech Jones

I am asking the West African Governors for full details, and I will let my hon. Friend have them later.

Mr. Erroll

Has the Minister no knowledge of the extent of tuberculosis in West Africa?

Mr. Creech Jones

I have a great deal of information, but it is inadequate. I think it is better to give complete and up-to-date information in the reply.

Dr. Segal

Is it not a fact that no sanatoria for tubercular patients exist in West Africa, and is this not a reflection on our administration?

Mr. Creech Jones

These proposals are included in the development schemes. Tuberculosis has been growing, and provision will be made in the 10-year programme.
