HC Deb 11 March 1947 vol 434 c1139
72. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the changing attitude in other countries, he will define the present policy of His Majesty's Government in regard to tariffs in relation to goods coming from the British Empire and Commonwealth, the U.S.A., the European countries and other countries of the world, respectively.

Mr. Harold Wilson (Secretary for Overseas Trade)

The present policy of His Majesty's Government with regard to tariffs on goods entering the United Kingdom from the British Empire and Commonwealth, and from other countries, remains as described by the Prime Minister on 6th December, 1945, in a statement which he made concerning the United States "Proposals for consideration by an International Conference on Trade and Employment." I have no knowledge of any official change of attitude towards this conference in other countries.
