HC Deb 10 March 1947 vol 434 cc932-3
16. Mr. George Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what arrangements have been made for U.S. assistance in connection with British commitments in Greece.

The Minister of State (Mr. McNeil)

I have nothing to add to the statement made by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary on 5th March, in reply to Questions by my hon. Friends the Members for Epping (Mrs. Manning), Maldon (Mr. Driberg) and Luton (Mr. Warbey).

29. Mr. Warbey

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will publish the text of the Notes exchanged between himself and the U.S. Government regarding the provision of U.S. financial and military assistance to the Greek Government.

Mr. McNeil

No, Sir, but a full statement on the present discussions will be issued in due course.

Mr. Warbey

In view of the far-reaching new development in foreign policy both of this country and the United States involved in these negotiations, will my right hon. Friend take into account the necessity of giving the fullest information about the facts, both to this House and to the country?

Mr. McNeil

I think that I indicated that if and when there is a decision which will justify a statement, it will be made as early as possible.
