§ 15. Brigadier Lowasked the Under-Secretary of State for Burma if he will give an assurance that, whatever Executive Council may be formed in Burma following the April elections, financial obligations undertaken by the Government of Burma in the meanwhile will be honoured strictly and in full, at least so long as a British-appointed Governor remains in Burma.
§ The Under-Secretary of State for Burma (Mr. Arthur Henderson)His Majesty's Government have no reason to suppose that the Interim Government of Burma will fail to honour their financial obligations.
§ Brigadier LowHas not the right hon. and learned Gentleman slightly misunderstood the Question? Is he not aware that it was directed not to the Interim Government failing to honour their obligations, but to some other Government which might succeed that Government?
§ Mr. HendersonFor the moment we must take the Government as they are, and not deal with some hypothetical position which may arise.
§ Mr. Walter FletcherWill the right hon. and learned Gentleman make quite certain that claims for rehabilitation, both under insurance schemes and other schemes, will be fully protected?
§ Mr. HendersonThat is an entirely different question. If the hon. Gentleman will put it on the Order Paper I shall be glad to answer it.
