HC Deb 06 March 1947 vol 434 cc628-9
21. Mr. Grey

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will allow mothers with babies that are fed by bottle to purchase vacuum flasks without permits and so alleviate the unnecessary inconveniences that many are experiencing through having to prepare hot water through the night.

23. Mr. Gooch

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make vacuum flasks available in the rural districts.

Sir S. Cripps

I regret that the supply position for vacuum flasks is still tight and that the permit scheme for one pint "Thermos" flasks cannot yet be dropped. This scheme takes full account of the needs of agricultural and other rural workers as well as those cases in which there are no other facilities for giving babies a hot drink. Vacuum flasks made by other companies, together with other products of the "Thermos" Company can be bought without permits.

Major Cecil Poole

Is the Minister satisfied that sufficient encouragement is given to the manufacturers of these flasks in the supply of the necessary raw materials?

Sir S. Cripps

Yes, Sir; we are doing everything we can to get manufacture stepped up.
