HC Deb 06 March 1947 vol 434 cc632-3
31. Mr. Erroll

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether full requirements of oil will be available for all firms now carrying out coal to oil conversion projects; and can complete availability of supplies be guaranteed for at least three years.

Mr. Shinwell

Provision for the fuel oil needed for the conversions so far authorised has been made in the present oil supply programme and similar provision will be made in the programmes for future years.

Mr. Erroll

Does the Minister realise that while there is still doubt as to his being able to supply all the oil required, many manufacturers will hold back from converting their plants to oil?

Mr. Shinwell

There is no doubt as to an ample supply of fuel oil being avail- able. There is no difficulty in this connection.

Mr. Erroll

Does that mean that any manufacturer can obtain all the fuel oil he wants if he converts?

Mr. Shinwell

That is a generalisation. If manufacturers will apply for the oil they require we will consider their requirements and do our best to meet them.
