HC Deb 06 March 1947 vol 434 c636
30. Air-Commodore Harvey

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power how much coal and coke has been allotted during the past three months to seedsmen for the purpose of growing horticultural exhibits.

Mr. Shinwell

No additional allocation has been made to seedsmen generally for this purpose but out of the total tonnage of fuel available for horticulture purposes, 80 tons of anthracite and nine tons of coke have been supplied to exhibitors with a view to assisting the growing of plants for export.

Air-Commodore Harvey

Is the Minister aware that his Department recently gave permission to a number of seedsmen to grow flowers for exhibition in this country, and in view of the shortage, will he give an undertaking that this will stop and that he will keep coal for essential purposes?

Mr. Shinwell

We supply coal where it is required.
