HC Deb 26 June 1947 vol 439 cc671-2
37. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Education for how long the school build- ing in Joel Street, Eastcote, Middlesex, has been vacant; and for what purpose it is intended the school shall be used.

Mr. Hardman

The Middlesex local education authority purchased these premises in February, 1947, and I understand that they had been vacant for at least a year before that. The authority propose to use the school for seriously crippled children, for whom there is a great shortage of accommodation, as soon as the necessary alterations can be carried out. In the meantime, the-premises may be used as an infants' school.

Mr. Beswick

What assistance is being given to the local education authority to enable it to make the necessary conversion in this case?

Mr. Hardman

Every assistance is being given, and it is hoped that the premises will be ready for the use of the crippled children in the last period of 1947, but it is possible that it may be next Easter before the school can be opened.
