HC Deb 19 June 1947 vol 438 cc2201-2
21. Mr. Frank Byers

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the reason for the continued delay in providing an exit permit for Anne M. Alpers, 22A, Krefeld-Traar, Kullpfad, 64, British zone, Germany, to come to this country to get married, in view of the fact that the consent of her parent has now been given and of the continued assurances that she would be permitted to come to this country.

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Ede)

As I informed the hon. Member on 18th March an exit permit was issued before 18th February. On receipt of the parent's consent to the marriage a visa was granted on 6th May.

Mr. Byers

In that case will the Minister explain why there has been this delay because I have heard only in the last week that this lady cannot come here; is there the proper co-ordination between his Department and others?

Mr. Ede

The difficulty is overseas. I may say that I have had the same trouble with regard to constituents of my own and I am trying to make contact with the appropriate people—over whom no Department responsible to this House has any control—with a view to having these movements expedited.
