HC Deb 10 June 1947 vol 438 c851
22. Mr. Bowden

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that there are numbers of epileptics registered as unemployed in the United Kingdom; that many are unable to obtain employment because of their disability; and if he will consider ways of getting these people to work in the open air under medical supervision.

Mr. Isaacs

The latest available figures indicate that about 1,350 epileptics are now registered as unemployed. The problem of finding suitable employment for epileptics has recently been the subject of special study in my Department, in conjunction with the medical authorities. There are many occupations, including some in the open air, which are suitable for them. Every effort is being made to place the less severely disabled of them in such jobs with sympathetic employers, and some of the more severe cases have already been placed in employment under sheltered conditions.
