HC Deb 08 July 1947 vol 439 c2022
33. Mr. John Foster

asked the Minister of Labour why the summonses issued during the war against three Maltese brothers named Eugene, Carmelo and Attilio Messina for evasion of national service were never enforced; and what steps are now being taken to prosecute these evasions of national service.

Mr. G. Isaacs

The summonses against these three men in respect of failure to submit to medical examination under the National Service Acts were not enforced because the men could not be traced. The warrants were subsequently withdrawn as the age of call-up was lowered. They would not now be called up to the Forces on account of their ages, and it is not proposed to reinstitute proceedings against them.
